The Mitchell Family | Francis David (1869 – 1921)

A young Frank Mitchell.

Francis or Frank Mitchell was born on January 18, 1869 and was David and Isabella’s eldest surviving son.

While David Mitchell and the eldest girls went to Mackay, Frank, Charlie and Ernest remained at Doonside with a tutor, maids and Isabella.

Frank and the younger boys also remained in Australia when David Mitchell, the Armstrongs and Annie sailed for England in 1886.

Frank lived at Doonside with David Mitchell and looked after the cement works in nearby Burnley Street. He was a good worker, good horseman and a good shot. (1)

He married Isobel Parkes in 1911 and had one son David who sadly died on November 13, 1919 when just six years old. He is buried next to his grand-father and namesake – David Mitchell – at the Lilydale Cemetery.

Frank and Isobel lived at Doonside after David Mitchell died and remained there until Frank died on October 20, 1921. He was buried at Lilydale Cemetery on October 30, 1921.
