Although born and raised in Australia, the tyranny of distance and slowness of ships forced Melba to live close to her work – the great opera houses of the world. Each opera house had its season and Melba took the opportunity to sing and tour throughout Europe and America after fulfilling her commitment to her beloved Covent Garden.
