In appreciation of her contribution to the world of opera and to fund-raising during World War 1, Melba received various awards from many countries. Below is just some of them and we welcome information about any additional awards.

1889 – April 14, The King of the Belgian presented Melba with the gold medal of the Brussels Conservatoire.

1890 – The Paris Conservatoire presented Melba with its Silver Medal.

1891 – The Paris Conservatoire presented Melba with another Silver Medal.

1894 – Melba awarded the Litteris et Artibus (Order of Literature and Art) from King Oscar of Sweden.

1915 – October 4, Life membership, Canadian Red Cross, Toronto

1916 – February 2, Melba appointed Lady of Grace of the Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, England.

1918 – March Melba created Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire – for services in organising patriotic work.

1919 – July 12, Melba received the Belgian Government’s la Medaille de la Reine Elisabeth.

1920 – August Presented with the Royal Medal of Merit in gold from the Norwegian royal family.

1921 – December Order of Polonia Restituta (Poland).

1927 – June 2, Melba and Princess Mary received the Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire. She became Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. (G.B.E.)

1928 – August 22, Created a Life Governor – Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital.
